A Camel rating is an internal bank rating system in the United States, which is kept secret from the public. It is used by government to assess the 'probablility of failure' of a bank. The scale is from 1 to 5 with 1 being strongest and 5 being weakest. The Camel rating was used to help decide which banks got financial bailout money in 2008.
